I started working for the Government Information Center within the Delaware Department of State on February 3, 2020.
Three weeks later, we were tasked to build a website for the COVID-19 pandemic which was threatening to approach our shores.
We worked alongside the Governor’s office, Delaware Health and Social Services, and the Delaware Emergency Management Agency.
I designed the initial wireframes for the website and built the WordPress theme skeleton. My developer teammates finished the website, and our design team put together a style guide and branding guidelines based on existing ones from the Delaware Health and Social Services website.
Since then, I have been the lead developer on the website and have done the following:
- Created a COVID-19 testing locator and calendar using the Modern Tribe Events Calendar WordPress plugin
- Gathered Google Analytics data and shared reports with stakeholders to help guide user experience decisions
- Redesigned and redeveloped the homepage based on what people were looking for the most, mainly information on testing and vaccines
- Made accessibility fixes, including enabling screen readers to announce emergency notification alerts
